July Update

In May, we shared that the Board had identified four near-term initiatives and begun building a longer-term roadmap. Two months in, we have a lot to report.

Sustainable Responsibility

On the operational side, we’ve streamlined several financial processes – members and families will notice the addition of EFT and e-transfer payment options, and internally we’ve implemented corporate credit cards to improve efficiency and accountability.

We’ve also completed our hiring push. We are thrilled to welcome Angela Le (Administrative Assistant), Michelle Chan (Events & Volunteer Coordinator), and Sophia Chiasson (Summer Camp Supervisor) to the Calalta team. These additions are not just about capacity today, they are a deliberate investment in succession planning and the long-term stability of the club.

Coaching Excellence

Working collaboratively with our coaching team, our GM and consultant developed a Coaches’ Accord – a shared framework of expectations and professional standards that reflects the kind of experience we want every Calalta skater to have. This work has led directly to an updated coaching contract that will be in place for the 2026–27 skating season.

What We’re Building Next

Beyond the near-term wins, we are actively developing several initiatives that will shape Calalta over the coming years:

  • Calalta 101 — A parent orientation course designed to educate and connect new families to our community. Target rollout: September 2026.
  • CanSkate-to-Figure Skating Conversion — Focused work on improving the pathway for CanSkate skaters to transition into figure skating programs.
  • Board Effectiveness — Ongoing governance work to ensure the Board is operating at its best in support of the club.
  • Business Continuity Planning — Building the frameworks that ensure Calalta is resilient and sustainable for the long term.
  • Coaching Talent — Planning for how we attract, develop, and retain exceptional coaches.
