Important Cancellations for November

 

Nov 30

Wed Nov 2  COP – No 7:15 am Lift Class or 7:45-8:45 am and 9-10 am Pairs ice session. Has moved to 10-11:30 am instead.
 Thu Nov 3  Sectionals begin in Edmonton
 Fri Nov 4 COP – No sessions at all
 Sun Nov 6 Sectionals – No stroking or off ice – all other sessions running!
 Wed Nov 9 COP – No 7:15 am Lift Class or 7:45-8:45 am and 9-10 am Pairs ice session. Has moved to 10-11:30 am instead.
 Thu Nov 10 COP – No ice at COP from 11:45 am to 6:45 pm.  No 4-5 pm off ice in PTC.

Sectionals Competition in Edmonton

Competitive figure skating’s version of Provincials is coming up this weekend!  The 2017 Alberta Sectionals Figure Skating Championships is being held at Terwilliger Arena in Edmonton this year.  76 Calalta skaters qualified to skate in this competition! Well done Skaters and Coaches!!  These skaters range in age from 11-21 and skate in singles, ice dance and pairs.  Check out the Section’s website for the live streaming link so you can watch the action from the comfort of your own home.

Please check with your coaches as to their availability from Thursday to Sunday Nov 3-6. They may be at Sectionals!!

Test Days

Don’t forget we have test days on Nov 22, 24 and 25 at Jimmie Condon.  Check with your coach to see if your skater is testing.  Also check out this month’s attachment for more details on what a test day looks like and the different dances, skills and programs your skater may be doing.

 

Calalta TeamWear is here!

The Calalta teamwear is here and in time for Sectionals!  Diana Peters will be taking gear to the COP kids on Wednesday November 2 and for the kids that skate out of Jimmie Condon, they can pick up their teamwear upstairs at JC starting Wednesday November 2.

COP Schedule back to Normal!

 

1)  Important Cancellations for October

Fri Oct 7 No CanSkate
Sat Oct 8 No CanSkate nor Power Skating – all other sessions running
Mon Oct 10 COP Only 4-5 pm, 5-5:45 pm, 6-7 pm ice sessions running at COP – no day sessions at all! Only the 5:10 and 6:00 pm jump classes will run – no other off ice including ballet will be run.

JCA – No sessions – rink closed for Thanksgiving

Tue Oct 11 No Group Sessions (HP/Jr Prep ice and off ice) – all other sessions running including the 6:05 pm off ice class
Wed Oct 12 No Wednesday CanSkate
Fri Oct 14 COP No ice sessions after 4 pm at COP. 9:00-10:00 am Pairs ice session has moved to 10:00-11:00 am instead

  1. Do’s and Don’ts for On and Off the Ice
  • If your skater is on the ice, please do not coach them from the boards.  Your job is to parent and your coaches job is to coach.  The player’s box on the COP rinks are meant for skaters and coaches – NOT parents;
  • Attached please find the ‘Skater’s Etiquette’ and the Code of Conduct – we encourage you to review these documents with your skater.

 

  1. AGM on Thursday October 27, 2016 at Jimmie Condon at 7:00 pm

Please join us for snacks at our Annual General Meeting on Thursday October 27 at Jimmie Condon at 7:00 pm.

 

  1. Volunteer Cheques are DUE

 

If you have not already done so, please submit your $600.00 volunteer deposit cheque dated June 1, 2017. You may mail Calalta or deposit this cheque in the locked mailbox at the base of the stairs at Jimmie Condon.

If you do volunteer your required 12 hours (16 hours for a family that has more than one skater) we will gladly shred your cheque.

Also COP schedule is back to normal starting Monday October 3, 2016.

Calalta Partnering with CIFF

Calalta to pleased to partner with the Calgary International Film Festival!  

 

The festival runs September 21 – October 2, 2016

 

This year we have a film that may resonate with the Calalta audience! The film is called KISS & CRY – a romantic drama based on the true story of Carley Allison, a promising young 18 year old figure skater and singer who made medical history in her fight against a rare 1 in 3.5 billion type of cancer. Click on the link provided above to check out a trailer and further synopsis for the film!

 

On Monday, September 26th at 6:45pm at The Globe, the director, producer, and main actress from the film will be in attendance for a Q&A. Check out www.calgaryfilm.com for details!

For those skaters that qualified for Sectionals, deadline for registration is MONDAY SEPTEMBER 26 at NOON!!

 

As of September 19, there were only 80 skaters registered (in all events!)!

Ice Cancellations at COP: Week of September 26

The following ice sessions at COP are CANCELLED due to mechanical problems on Joan Snyder Rink B ice.

 

Please READ and then TALK to your coach!

If you are registered for a session and it is cancelled, you will receive a credit for that session.  If you pick up a different session, PLEASE check in with Jeff Langdon as he is monitoring the pick up ice.  You must either pay or have the club bill you.

The following ice sessions at COP are CANCELLED due to mechanical problems.

 

Please READ and then TALK to your coach!

We know the ice will be busy (if you are skating in Canmore, you will have priority in getting on the ice –  Jeff and Diana will allow extra skaters) and getting your program in will be a priority (those skating at Canmore will be served first).  Please be patient with the coaches, they are doing the best they can with limited ice!

 

Week of September 19

 

Monday Sept 19:  6:00-7:00 pm Senior CANCELLED

1) if you have a skater registered on this ice, please speak to your coach!  They have a number of options available including:

  • Skating on the 4:00 pm session (only 12 skaters) currently registered;
  • Skating on the 5:00 pm session (21 skaters registered);
  • Skating on the 8:45-9:45 session at Jimmie Condon (14 registered);
  • Not skating and receiving a credit on your account.  If you are not competing in Canmore this weekend, you may consider this option as the ice will be crazy.

 

ALL off ice classes are running as scheduled

 

Tuesday Sept 20: 5:45-6:45 pm Int/Sr CANCELLED

 

1) if you have a skater registered on this ice, please speak to your coach!  They have a number of options available including:

Guess Who’s Coming to Town! Joannie Rochette’s Coach – Manon Perron!

Calalta is pleased to partner with Manon Perron for our next skating clinic!  This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for your skater!

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday September 13, 14 and 15 (times vary so please check out the link below).

All sessions held at Winsport’s COP arena!  Parents are welcome to observe!  Each session is limited to 18 skaters so register quickly!

All skills levels from Star 3 to Star 10 (Jr Bronze to Gold) and Pre Juvenile to Senior are welcome!

Manon Perron is the coach of Joannie Rochette, a Canadian champion, a gold medalist at the World Championships and an Olympics bronze medalist. Manon has been performing her duties for more than 30 years and is NCCP Level 4 certified. She has enjoyed tremendous success with her skaters at all levels, ranging from section championships to international competitions. She won the Skate Canada Competitive Coach of the Year Award in 2007 and 2010, and was the first winner of GM Canada’s Making Dreams Possible program, as Joannie Rochette’s coach. Manon is currently giving seminars to coaches and athletes all over Canada and internationally. She is also a mentor coach in Skate Canada’s High Performance Mentorship Program and works directly with Calalta coaches Anabelle & Cody Hay.
